Want to Sound like Bill Frisell?

Updated: Oct 23, 2021

Of course there's more to it than just this,, but you can clearly hear that he (and many others) use a creative flow of intervals in his playing. For starters, play a C Major Scale up and down on the 2nd string. Then, harmonize intervals of 2nds, 4ths, and 7ths below the scale notes. See what chords may be implied by adding certain bass notes. Having this concept down on the fretboard will help you with harmonizing melodies and sounding modern!. Be creative: Harmonize existing melodies with these intervals and compose harmonized lines in between melodic phrases to fill up space. Try this with some reverb and delay!
